Tron: Ares director Joachim Rønning took to Instagram to confirm that production on the next installment to the sci-fi action franchise has finally been completed.
In his post, the Norwegian filmmaker also shared behind-the-scenes photos from the Vancouver set of the Jared Leto-led movie. It is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 10, 2025.
“Thanks to an incredible and tireless crew, I really believe we pushed the filmmaking limits on this movie,” Rønning wrote. “Even through six weeks of night shoots you never slowed down. Also, a big thank you to our wonderful cast for leaving everything on screen. I can’t wait to show the world what we’ve done.”
Jeff Bridges returns in Tron: Ares
Prior to Tron: Ares’ filming wrap, franchise vet Jeff Bridges confirmed that he will be reprising his role as Kevin Flynn in the upcoming sequel, after over a decade since appearing in Tron: Legacy. The film will also star After Yang actor Jodie Turner-Smith, Past Lives breakout Greta Lee, Golden Globe winner Gillian Anderson, Emmy winner Evan Peters, Shameless alum Cameron Monaghan, and Yellowjackets star Sarah Desjardins.
Tron: Ares is being directed by Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) from a screenplay written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne. Leto will reportedly play the titular character — a manifestation of a program that becomes sentient and crosses over into the human world. The film is produced by Emma Ludbrook, Jeffrey Springer, and Leto. Russell Allen will also serve as an executive producer.
