New Masters of the Universe Reboot Release Date Confirmed as Amazon MGM Takes Over

Fans of the franchise can rejoice as the new Masters of the Universe reboot has moved a step closer to becoming a reality. After being stuck in development limbo, it has found a new home at Amazon MGM. The film has also acquired a director, a writer, and a release date.

Masters of the Universe reboot gets a new release date

Mattel Films has partnered with Amazon MGM Studios to get the Masters of the Universe reboot on track after extensive delays to its production. The movie is now set to release theatrically on June 5, 2026. Its official synopsis states:

“Masters of the Universe introduces a 10-year-old Prince Adam, who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword — the only link to his home on Eternia.”

The synopsis continues:

“After tracking it down almost two decades later. Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!”

On Wednesday, Amazon MGM revealed the above synopsis along with the film’s release date and other details. Bumblebee director Travis Knight was previously eyed to direct. Knight has now been officially tapped to helm the movie based on a screenplay by Chris Butler.

The film was previously being produced for Netflix and $30 million had been spent on it already. But Variety reported that the streaming giant wasn’t interested in moving forward with it. Now, Amazon MGM has taken over, with Robbie Brenner, Todd Black, Steve Tisch, and Jason Blumenthal attached as producers.

The casting of He-Man and other Masters of the Universe is yet to be announced.
