A horror movie based on the unofficial Willy Wonka experience that went viral last week has been announced.
Per Bloody Disgusting, production company Kaledonia Pictures has announced The Unknown, a new horror movie featuring the now-iconic villain from Willy’s Chocolate Experience, is set to go into production later this year.
The Unknown: Who is the evil chocolate maker who lives in the walls?
In February 2024, a company called House of Illuminati organized an unlicensed “immersive” Willy Wonka experience in Glasgow, Scotland. While AI-generated images were used to promote a “dreamlike” adventure, customers very quickly discovered that the event was held in an ominous warehouse with only a few unimpressive decorations scattered around.
The event’s script (which was also reportedly AI-generated) introduced a villain called The Unkown, an “evil chocolate maker who lives in the walls.” Clips featuring The Unknown quickly went viral as the character, who wears a mask and black cape, jumped out from behind mirrors to scare children.
One of the actors involved in the event, Paul Connell, said on TikTok that he was supposed to defeat The Unknown with a vacuum cleaner; however, he was never given a vacuum cleaner or any kind of props. Instead, Connell was told to “improvise.”
The Willy’s Chocolate Experience event was canceled midway through its opening day after customers demanded refunds and, eventually, called the police to the event.
What will The Unknown movie be about?
“The film, gearing up for production and a late 2024 release, follows a renowned illustrator and his wife who are haunted by the tragic death of their son, Charlie,” Kaledonia Pictures said of the forthcoming movie. “Desperate to escape their grief, the couple leave the world behind for the remote Scottish Highlands – where an unknowable evil awaits them.”
The company also told Bloody Disgusting, “We are excited to begin production and look forward to sharing more with you as soon as possible. We are actually only a few miles from the event, so it is quite surreal to see Glasgow all over social media, worldwide.”
The Unknown is currently looking to release in late 2024.
