It’s a big morning for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, as the cast of the video game adaptation sequel has grown once more, with Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter and five other actors having joined.
IGN has reported that Ritter, James Wolk, Sofia Pernas, Alyla Browne, Jorma Taccone, and Cristo Fernández have signed on to be in upcoming video game movie. Though there’s no word on who each star will be playing, the outlet notes that Ritter has been rumored to be voicing the character of Rouge the Bat.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be directed by Jeff Fowler and written by Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington. Ben Schwartz is set to reprise his role as Sonic the Hedgehog. Details on the plot are sparse, but it will feature Shadow the Hedgehog — Sonic’s speedy rival who first appeared in the 2001 Sega Dreamcast game Sonic Adventure 2. The film is set to release in theaters on December 20, 2024.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was also directed by Jeff Fowler, who made his feature directorial debut on the hit predecessor. The film earned a worldwide gross of over $400 million at the box office against a reported $90-110 million budget.
In addition to Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Paramount Pictures is also currently developing a spin-off series centered around Elba’s Knuckles, which will debut on Paramount+.
