Anaconda Reboot to Take a Meta Approach

According to a new report on the creature feature, Tom Gormican’s Anaconda film is set to take a meta approach to its story.

Jeff Sneider revealed on The Hot Mic podcast that the new Anaconda will feature known actors playing heightened versions of themselves starring in a new Anaconda movie when things take a turn for the real.

However, Sneider stressed that the actors in question are not yet signed up for the project. So things could very well change.

Tom Gormican directed the meta Nicolas Cage movie The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, and naturally, Cage is the first name that comes to mind for such a thing. In terms of the original cast, who’s to say there won’t be a meta ribbing of legacy sequels that sees Ice Cube or Jennifer Lopez make an appearance?

Sneider also mentions that Gormican is provisionally writing the movie, but directing it isn’t out of the question.

Reports of Sony revitalizing the surprise 1997 success in the wake of The Meg and Godzilla’s success surfaced back before the start of the global pandemic. The original movie made a handsome $135 million of a $45 million budget.

Anaconda’s box office success spawned a franchise that included 2004 sequel Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid, which was another financial hit. Two direct-to-video sequels Anaconda 3: Offspring starring David Hasselhoff (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) and Anacondas: Trail of Blood followed to lesser returns. The franchise did a cross-over with the cult crocodile series Lake Placid in the 2015 Lake Placid vs. Anaconda movie.
