A brand new Kung Fu Panda 4 photo from Universal Pictures’ latest installment to the blockbuster animated franchise has been revealed (via Total Film).
The photo provides fans a glimpse at one of Po’s newest enemies, an unnamed blue stingray who challenges the Dragon Warrior to a fight. It seemingly teases the outcome of the battle, as Po can be seen effortlessly wrapping the stingray with its tail. The film is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 8.
What to expect in Kung Fu Panda 4?
Kung Fu Panda 4 is directed by Mike Mitchell and Stephanie Ma Stine, with Rebecca Huntley serving as the producer. The newest installment features the voices of Jack Black, Viola Davis, Awkwafina, Dustin Hoffman, James Hong, Bryan Cranston, Ian McShane, and Ke Huy Quan.
The film’s official synopsis reads: “After three death-defying adventures defeating world-class villains with his unmatched courage and mad martial arts skills, Po, the Dragon Warrior, is called upon by destiny to . . . give it a rest already. More specifically, he’s tapped to become the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace. That poses a couple of obvious problems. First, Po knows as much about spiritual leadership as he does about the paleo diet, and second, he needs to quickly find and train a new Dragon Warrior before he can assume his new lofty position.”
The Kung Fu Panda franchise began in 2008, with the first film getting nominated for an Oscar Award for Best Animated Feature. It featured the voices of Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, Dustin Hoffman, James Hong, and Seth Rogen. Due to its success, it was followed by two more sequels in 2011 and 2016. The trilogy currently has a combined gross of over $1.8 billion at the worldwide box office.
