Blumhouse producer Ryan Turek has confirmed that the killer doll sequel M3GAN 2.0 is now in development at the horror studio.
M3GAN 2.0 is Booting Up
Turek was speaking to Collider about all things Blumhouse, with a few glimpses at the future for the horror hit makers.
When Turek was questioned about the development of sequels to two of Blumhouse’s recent horror hits M3GAN and The Black Phone, he confirmed the former was in the early stages of production.
”M3GAN 2.0 is underway. We haven’t started shooting or anything like that. We’re aiming towards that January release date that was set,” Turek said, then turning his attention to The Black Phone 2, which is a bit further off. ”And The Black Phone 2, there’s nothing else I can say really in terms of movement.”
In M3GAN, A young woman named Gemma (Allison Williams, Get Out) suddenly becomes the caretaker of her orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady (Violet McGraw, The Haunting of Hill House), Gemma’s unsure and unprepared to be a parent. Under intense pressure at work, Gemma decides to pair her M3GAN prototype with Cady in an attempt to resolve both problems — a decision that will have unimaginable consequences.
M3GAN featured in our Best of 2023 coverage, being selected as one of the year’s best horror movies and best horror performances for Amie Donald and Jenna Davis playing the titualr killer doll.
It didn’t take long after the success of M3GAN for M3GAN 2.0 to be greenlit, with the first film’s stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw set to return.
M3GAN 2.0 is set to be released in theaters on January 25, 2025.
