The first official trailer for the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa was released last week, and now we know a bit more about where it sits in the Mad Max world’s timeline.
During a recent appearance at Brazil’s CCXP, director George Miller spoke briefly about the film. Miller confirmed that Furiosa is set to take place “15 years directly before Fury Road,” and that the movie will lead right into Fury Road.
“It’s really the story of Furiosa and how she got to there,” said Miller (via World of Reel). “So a lot of the film will be familiar, a lot of it is new — unseen before.”
Miller kept quiet on if Max himself would be in the film, simply saying that “Max is lurking around somewhere around this story,” so fans will have to wait for more information on that.
What is Furiosa about?
“As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”
A prequel to 2015 Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Imperator Furiosa alongside Chris Hemsworth. In addition to Taylor-Joy and Hemsworth, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga also stars Tom Burke, Alyla Browne, Quaden Bayles, Daniel Webber, and Lachy Hulme. Additionally, Mad Max: Fury Road stars Nathan Jones and Angus Sampson reprise their roles as Rictus Erectus and The Organic Mechanic, respectively.
The movie is set to release in U.S. theaters on May 24, 2024 from Warner Bros Pictures.
