Thanksgiving 2: Eli Roth Horror Sequel & Release Date Window Announced

After the first movie’s premiere two weeks ago, it’s been revealed that Thanksgiving 2 is in the works at Sony’s TriStar Pictures.

The Hollywood Reporter noted that director Eli Roth is returning for the sequel, which is currently set to release sometime in 2025. Roth himself took to Instagram and posted a video where he reveals that he and Jeff Rendell will be writing the follow-up after taking a year off, stating that this will let them write “a great script” and outdo themselves with Thanksgiving 2.

The filmmaker then shows off two John Carver masks — a burnt one and a regular one — as well as a NECA plush of Carver before ending the video by saying it’s always been his dream to make a slasher franchise.

What is Thanksgiving about?

“After a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorizes Plymouth, Massachusetts — the birthplace of the holiday,” the film’s official synopsis reads. “Picking off residents one by one, what begins as random revenge killings are soon revealed to be part of a larger, sinister holiday plan. Will the town uncover the killer and survive the holidays…or become guests at his twisted holiday dinner table?”

Thanksgiving was directed by Roth from a screenplay by Rendell. Roth and Rendell also produced alongside Roger Birnbaum. The film was inspired by Roth’s fake movie trailer he made from 2007’s Grindhouse by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino.
