While not much is known about the upcoming Shrek 5, the potential release date window for the film was reportedly revealed.
On the social media platform LinkedIn, an intern for NBC Universal listed out a handful of different roles that they had on while working for the company. One of those was generating “consumer product ideas” for a variety of projects, including both Wicked films, Despicable Me 4, and Shrek 5.
In those descriptions, Shrek 5 is listed as releasing as sometime in 2025. Since the discovery of the post, the LinkedIn post has since been deleted, although screenshots of the post have made their way online.
What do we know about Shrek 5?
Currently, not a whole lot is known about Shrek 5, although the full cast of the original Shrek films are set to return, with negotiations with the stars having begun in April.
“We anticipate the cast coming back. Talks are starting now, and every indication that we’ve gotten is there’s tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of the actors to return,” said Illumination’s founder and CEO Chris Meledandri.
Following Shrek Forever After‘s release in 2010, the Shrek franchise has leaned more into the other characters featured in Shrek franchise for future movies and projects. Specifically, Puss in Boots has received two movies (2011’s Puss in Boots and 2022’s Puss in Boots: The Last Wish), as well as a brief television series, The Adventures of Puss in Boots.
