Warner Bros. has changed the name of an upcoming mob drama from director Barry Levinson and starring Robert De Niro while also setting a new release date for the film.
The film was previously known as The Wise Guys, and will now be titled Alto Knights, according to Warner Bros. (via The Hollywood Reporter) in a recent announcement.
The release date for the movie has also officially been set, with the drama scheduled to premiere on November 15, 2024, a multi-month delay from its originally planned release date of February 2, 2024.
Delay not strike related, according to reports
Despite many films being pushed back due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, a report from THR notes that the shift in release is actually not due to the strike.
Alongside De Niro, Alto Knights is also set to star Debra Messing and Kathrine Narducci. Nicholas Pileggi will write the film, which is set to be produced by Irwin Winkler and Jason Sosnoff. The film “follows two of New York’s most notorious organized crime bosses, Frank Costello and Vito Genovese, and how their separate paths to power place them on a deadly collision course,” according to its logline.
Alto Knights will also reunite the director and legendary actor following their 2008 HBO television movie The Wizard of Lies, which saw De Niro star in the film as Bernie Madoff. In a twist on things, however, De Niro will be featured twice in the movie and will play two of the main characters.
