According to Deadline, One Piece breakout Taz Skylar has been tapped to join Daisy Ridley in the forthcoming action thriller titled Cleaner. Production on the project is scheduled begin in early 2024.
This marks the Spanish actor’s first major project since the successful debut of Netflix’s live-action TV adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s beloved manga. Prior to landing the role of Sanji in One Piece, he appeared in the acclaimed kitchen drama film Boiling Point, in which Skylar played Billy. He is currently reprising the role in BBC’s ongoing four-part sequel series.
Who’s involved in the Cleaner?
Cleaner will be directed by Martin Campbell. Ridley is set to portray Joey Locke, a former soldier-turned-window cleaner who has found herself in the middle of terrorist attack. The project is produced by Sebastien Raybaud and Callum Grant, with Anton financing and producing.
“Set in present-day London, the film will see radical activists take over an energy company’s annual gala at the Shard – the tallest skyscraper in Western Europe – seizing 300 hostages in order to expose the corruption of the hosts,” reads the synopsis.
“Their just cause is hijacked by a zealous extremist within their ranks, who is ready to murder everyone in the building to send his anarchic message to the world. It falls to an ex-soldier turned window cleaner, Joey Locke – suspended 90 stories up on the outside of the building – to save those trapped inside and take down the killers, whilst also finding a way to bring the corrupt energy moguls to justice.”
Before starring in Cleaner, Ridley will first be seen in three upcoming movies including: the psychological thriller, The Marsh King’s Daughter; the Gertrude Ederle biopic film, Young Woman and the Sea; and the neo-noir film, Magpie. Ridley is also set to return to the Star Wars universe, as she reprises her iconic role as Rey in an untitled movie from director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
