Ferrari: Adam Driver-Led Biopic to Close New York Film Festival

According to Deadline, Michael Mann‘s upcoming Ferrari biopic has officially been selected to close out the New York Film Festival on October 13 at the Alice Tully Hall.

Prior to its NYFF screening, the Adam Driver-led film will host its world premiere at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, which will be followed by its theatrical release on December 25. NEON has the North American rights to the movie.

“Michael Mann has made many remarkable movies but perhaps never one as simultaneously thrilling and moving as Ferrari,” artistic director of New York Film Festival, Dennis Lim said in a statement. “Not just a feat of virtuosity, this is a grand and striking evolution of his career themes and his most deeply personal work. We are honored to welcome him to the festival for what I’m sure will be a closing night for the ages.”

What to Expect in Ferrari?

“It’s the summer of 1957. Ex-racecar driver, Enzo Ferrari, is in crisis,” reads the synopsis. “All the dramatic forces of his life – as volatile as the red race cars he builds – are in collision. Bankruptcy stalks the company he and his wife, Laura, built from nothing ten years earlier. Their tempestuous marriage struggles with the mourning for one son and the acknowledgement of another. The passionate instigator of men inspires his Spring Team of drivers, some like surrogate sons. He blunts a hostile press with strafing wit and boldly strategizes to roll the dice on one race – 1,000 miles across Italy, the infamous Mille Miglia.  As the red cars slam through towns and mountain passes towards unpredictable outcomes, the future of these vivid characters’ lives are being written.”

Ferrari is directed by Michael Mann (The Last of the Mohicans, Ali) from a screenplay he co-wrote with Troy Kennedy Martin. The film’s star-studded cast also includes Penélope Cruz as Laura Ferrari, Shailene Woodley as Lina Lardi, Gabriel Leone as Alfonso de Portago, Sarah Gadon as Linda Christian, Jack O’Connell as Peter Collins, Patrick Dempsey as Piero Taruffi, and more.

It is produced by P.J. van Sandwijk, John Lesher, Lars Sylvest, Thorsten Schumacher, and Gareth West, with Niels Juul serving as an executive producer.
