Rosebushpruning Cast: Kristen Stewart & More to Lead English Remake

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oscar nominee Kristen Stewart (Spencer), Golden Globe winner Josh O’Connor (The Crown), and Emmy nominee Elle Fanning (The Great) have signed on for the leading roles in the upcoming Rosebushpruning movie, based on Marco Bellocchio’s classic Italian dark comedy Fists in the Pocket.

What to Expect in the Rosebushpruning movie?

Rosebushpruning will be directed by Karim Aïnouz, who’s most recent period drama Firebrand made its world premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. The English remake is being written by The Lobster’s Efthimis Filippou, with The Match Factory and MUBI producing the project.

“Marco Bellocchio’s astonishing debut, Fists in the Pocket, was released over 50 years ago and had a huge impact on Italian cinema and storytelling at the time,” Aïnouz said in a statement. “I’m excited to be collaborating with Efthimis Filippou to revisit this iconic work to create a contemporary parable about the death of the traditional patriarchal family — which I hope will be touching and provocative in equal measure. It’s a dream come true to be working with such a dynamic ensemble of actors that I have long admired to bring this explosive adaptation to audiences today.”

The original 1965 movie is described as a significant piece in Italian cinema which tells a dark satire of family and social values. Starring Lou Castel, the film centered around a young epileptic man who is planning to murder his dysfunctional family.
