Much of the upcoming Disney+ series Agatha: Coven of Chaos is unknown, but according to star Patti LuPone, we now know who she and co-star Joe Locke are set to play.
Speaking during a recent appearance on The View (via TheWrap), LuPone revealed that she would be playing the role of Lilia Calderu, a witch from the world of Marvel Comics, in the upcoming show. LuPone also confirmed what many believed to be true, in that the series would be about a coven of witches.
“Well it’s a coven of witches, and I play Lilia Calderu, who apparently is in the Marvel world,” LuPone said. “And I researched her, she’s hot! She’s really hot! She is! She’s got a great body, raven hair.”
LuPone went on to reveal that Locke will be playing the role of her witch’s familiar and also confirmed that the rest of the coven would be filled out by stars Aubrey Plaza, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, and others.
“We are a coven of witches, and the witches are Kathryn Hahn, Aubrey Plaza, and the familiar — if anybody knows Heartstopper — is Joe Locke,” said LuPone. “And Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, and myself. And I play Lilia Calderu, a 450-year-old Sicilian witch, whose power is divination, and whose trial is tarot.”
In the world of Marvel Comics, Calderu is tasked with guarding the Book of Cagliostro, a tome that contains mystic knowledge and passages from other books, including the Darkhold. In the comics, she also has a run-in with Baron Mordo, who is played by Chiwetel Ejiofor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The series will also see the return of Emma Caulfield Ford and Debra Jo Rupp, who are reprising their roles as Westview residents. They will be joined by MCU newcomers Emmy nominee Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Sasheer Zamata, and Patti LuPone, with Locke rumored to be the male lead.
The upcoming project hails from head writer Jac Schaeffer, who is also serving as an executive producer along with Kevin Feige. The directing lineup will consist of Schaeffer, Gandja Monteiro, and Rachel Goldberg.
