In a recent interview with Lifehacker Australia, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star Jonathan Majors shared his admiration towards Marvel Cinematic Universe vet Robert Downey Jr. and his “fascinating” portrayal of Iron Man.
Majors went on to express his desire to see Kang facing off with Downey’s Tony Stark in Marvel Studios’ highly-anticipated Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which Majors is extremely excited to do since “it has the potential to grow the mythology of Kang.”
“This is like a Robert Downey Jr. day, he just keeps popping in [to my head]. “Like, I know he’s an OG. I mean, he’s one of the originals. I’m just such a huge fan of him as an actor. I think what he did with Iron Man was such a gift to the culture at large,” Majors explained.
“I would love to be across from him on screen to see how our philosophies, acting-wise and character-wise, just personally, match up. You know, I find him to be such a fascinating artist, which is why Iron Man is so fascinating. His portrayal of Iron Man is so fascinating and he represents a very clear worldview and energy of the Avengers. And I think Kang represents a different era.”
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will be directed by Shang-Chi filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton, who’s also currently working with Marvel Studios on its live-action series adaptation of Wonder Man. The film is being written by Quantumania scribe Jeff Loveness. According to Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige during the panel, both of these films are currently planned to be the final entries in Phase 6 of the MCU, which will begin with the introduction of the Fantastic Four into the MCU.
The film is currently scheduled to make its debut in theaters on May 2, 2025, it will then shortly be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on November 7, 2025.
