Grammy winner Lady Gaga took to Instagram to seemingly confirm that she has already started filming her scenes as Harley Quinn in Todd Phillips’ forthcoming DC sequel Joker: Folie à Deux. The film is currently slated for an October 4, 2024 theatrical release.
In her post, the singer-turned-actress shared her reaction to bagging an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song for her work on Top Gun: Maverick‘s theme song, “Hold My Hand.” This marks the third time that Lady Gaga was nominated for the same category. Gaga ends the post by stating that she is “on set filming now,” which lines up with Phillips’ earlier comment that Gaga would start filming “after the new year.”
Joker: Folie à Deux will once again be directed by Todd Phillips. The film will feature the return of Joaquin Phoenix as he reprises his Oscar-winning role as the titular DC villain. He will be joined by Grammy-winning superstar Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. The sequel will also feature the return of Zazie Beetz’s Sophie, along with franchise newcomers Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey.
The 2019 film was both a critical and commercial success with a worldwide gross of over $1 billion at the box office, making it the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. It received recognition from multiple major award-giving bodies, including two Oscars and two Golden Globes — both for Best Actor and Best Original Sound.
