The holiday season has already arrived on HBO Max.
Starting on Thursday, November 17, streaming service subscribers can watch A Christmas Story Christmas, the sequel to the appreciated A Christmas Story comedy. The story takes place 30 years after the events of the original movie and will see actor Peter Billingsley returning as Ralphie. Clay Kaytis (The Christmas Chronicles) directed A Christmas Story Christmas from a screenplay by Nick Schenk. Julie Hagerty (Airplane!, Just Friends) joins Billingsley as Ralphie’s mother, a character previously portrayed by Oscar nominee Melinda Dillon in the 1983 film.
“The sequel follows an adult Ralphie in the 1970s, who returns to the house on Cleveland Street to deliver his kids a magical Christmas like the one he had growing up,” reads the synopsis. “With the same attention to real-life tone of the first, Ralphie reconnects with childhood friends, reconciles the passing of his Old Man, and sows the seeds for the origins of the beloved holiday classic.”
Billingsley and Vince Vaughn produced the A Christmas Story sequel through their Wild West Picture Show banner. The executive producers’ list includes Schenk, with Legendary’s Cale Boyter and Jay Ashenfelter overseeing the sequel on the studio’s behalf.
