Fox Shifts Release Dates for Independence Day 2 and Hitman: Agent 47

20th Century Fox has made a few changes to its upcoming release calendar, including pushing Independence Day 2 one week earlier. Originally planned for release on July 1, 2016, the much-anticipated sequel will hit the big screen on June 24, 2016 instead, the same day as Universal Pictures’ The Mummy reboot. Hitman: Agent 47, meanwhile, has been delayed six months, moving from February 27 to August 28. It’s the first film to claim that new date. The Weinstein Company, then, has moved its children’s book adaptation, Paddington, from its planned release this Christmas day to January 16, 2015. There, it will open opposite Michael Mann’s Blackhat, the Kevin Hart/Josh Gad comedy team-up, The Wedding Ringer and, in a limited release, the true story Spare Parts. Originally planned for release that day was also to be the animated film Underdogs, which has itself moved to April 10, 2015, going up against the Nicholas Sparks adaptation The Longest Ride and the Vonda McIntyre adaptation The Moon and the Sun. UPDATE: Two more films have shifted their schedules with Scouts vs. Zombies moving from February 20, 2015 to October 30, 2015 and Hot Tub Time Machine 2 going from December 25 to February 20, 2015. Scouts vs. Zombies is the first film to claim its new date, but Hot Tub Time Machine 2 will face off against Gavin O’Connor’s Western Jane Got a Gun, Ari Sandel’s comedy The DUFF, Niki Caro’s true sports tale McFarland, USA and Pierre Morel’s action-thriller The Gunman.
