Dwayne Johnson to Headline Baywatch!

Paramount Pictures has set Dwayne Johnson to headline their long-gestating big screen version of Baywatch! The Hollywood Reporter today also brings word that the We’re the Millers team of Sean Anders and John Morris will direct with Justin Malen having just been brought aboard to rewrite the screenplay.

Jeremy Garelick and Peter Tolan were both previously attached to script Baywatch. Their versions of their comedy-heavy take on the script was said to have little to do with the original series, although parts had been written in for both Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff to reprise their roles. Current plans for the project, however, are unknown.

Johnson starred earlier this year in Hercules and is set to reprise his franchise role in next summer’s Fast & Furious 7. Anders and Morris, meanwhile, are about to release their latest, Horrible Bosses 2

UPDATE: Dwayne Johnson has confirmed his involvement and says the movie will be “edgy, raunchy and hopefully, funny as hell.”

“This is my beach bitch!” Rumors are true… we’re making #BAYWATCH the movie. Edgy, raunchy and hopefully, funny as all hell. Cue slo mo running on the beach… #WhoNeedsMouthToMouth #RedShortsBeHugginABrotha
