Although heâs currently working on the second chapter of his âGreat North Trilogyâ with Yoga Hosers, Kevin Smith has revealed that a return to his âView Askewniverseâ is finally moving forward as Clerks III has secured financing! Smith made the announcement on the latest episode of his Hollywood Babble-On podcast (via /Film).
ââTuskâ was the absolute bridge to âClerks III,'â says Smith. âBecause of âTusk,â I got my financing for âClerks IIIâ. A year and change ago I was desperately trying to get âClerks IIIâ made for the 20th anniversary⌠I must have reeked of [desperation], because I couldnÂt fÂing find money and sât. But it was âTusk,â with people going ÂHoly fÂk, what else do you have? I was like, âClerks III!â and theyÂre like. ÂDone! Everybody thatÂs like, ÂHe failed, he failed! IÂm like, ÂThank you, I failed into Clerks III!Ââ
Jeff Anderson and Brian OâHalloran played Randal Graves and Dante Hicks in the original 1994 Clerks. A pair of young slackers working minimum wage customer service jobs, they reprised their roles for a short-lived animated series and then returned to the big screen in 2006âs Clerks II. Itâs a pretty safe bet that theyâll be back on the big screen for this trilogy capper (at one time planned to be Smithâs very last film).
