While Christian Bale plays Gorr the God Butcher in the upcoming sequel Thor: Love and Thunder, he recently said that he’d return to another iconic comic book role if given the chance.
In a recent interview with Variety, Bale was asked about the possibility of donning the cowl once again and stepping into the role of Batman. According to the actor, he’s never been asked about playing the role again, but did note that if director Christopher Nolan would ever ask him to return, he would.
“No. No one’s ever mentioned it to me. No one’s brought it up,” Bale said. “Occasionally people say to me, ‘Oh, I hear you were approached and offered all this.’ And I’m like, ‘That’s news to me. No one’s ever said that.'”
“I had a pact with Chris Nolan. We said, ‘Hey, look. Let’s make three films, if we’re lucky enough to get to do that. And then let’s walk away. Let’s not linger too long.’ In my mind, it would be something if Chris Nolan ever said to himself, ‘You know what, I’ve got another story to tell.’ And if he wished to tell that story with me, I’d be in.”

Bale’s turn as Batman came in what is considered the best trilogy of live-action Batman films to date, with the actor starring as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises. While the end of the third film seemingly closed the book on Bale’s Batman, it’s not entirely impossible that Bale could once again return if Nolan is keen to.
