The first footage from Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest, Inherent Vice, is now online, albeit in a very brief form. Brief shots from the upcoming Thomas Pynchon adaptation are included in the below trailer for the upcoming New York Film Festival, posted today by EW.
Marking the first-ever adaptation of one of Pynchon’s novels, Inherent Vice begins when when private eye Doc Sportello’s ex-old lady suddenly out of nowhere shows up with a story about her current billionaire land developer boyfriend whom she just happens to be in love with, and a plot by his wife and her boyfriend to kidnap that billionaire and throw him in a loony bin… well, easy for her to say.
Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Katherine Waterston, Reese Witherspoon, Benicio Del Toro, Martin Short, Jena Malone and Joanna Newson, Inherent Vice hits theaters on December 12.
The New York Film Festival runs September 26 to October 12.
