With the Middle-Earth grand-finale The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies on the way this December and Marvel Studios’ “Phase Three” launcher Ant-Man hitting next July, respective franchise stars Orlando Bloom and Michael Douglas are teaming up with the previously-attached Noomi Rapace (Prometheus, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) for a new thriller, Unlocked. Alex Walton and Ken Kao of BLOOM today made the announcement alongside word that they will handle international sales on the film, which is set to be directed by Michael Apted (The World is Not Enough, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader).
Based on a screenplay by Peter O’Brien, Unlocked tells the story of a CIA interrogator (Rapace) who unwittingly provides information to terrorists and then must race against the clock to stop a biological warfare attack on London.
Lorenzo DiBonaventura (Transformers: Age of Extinction, Salt) is producing alongside Georgina Townsley and Erik Howsam. Silver Reel (Under the Skin, The Railway Man, The Host) will finance and produce alongside DiBonaventura.
“I am delighted to introduce this fresh, smart European thriller to buyers in Toronto,” said Walton. “With three major studio movies in production, Noomi Rapace is becoming one of the hottest female international stars working today. When you add Michael Apted, Michael Douglas and Orlando Bloom — you have a commercial package that I am confident will draw strong interest.”
BLOOM is introducing the film to buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival and has targeted principal photography to begin on November.
