Focus Features announced this morning that James Ransone is set to reprise his Sinister role for the upcoming sequel, Sinister 2. Joining him will be franchise newcomer Shannyn Sossamon (The Rules of Attraction).
The sequel, an eOne and Blumhouse Productions film, begins production next week in Chicago. Ciaran Foy (Citadel) is directing with Focus Features set to release Sinister 2 nationwide domestically on Friday, August 21st, 2015.
In the aftermath of the shocking events of Sinister, a protective mother (Sossamon) and her 9-year-old twin sons (real-life twins Robert and Dartanian Sloan) find themselves in a rural house marked for death.
Scott Derrickson, director of the original Sinister, has written the sequel’s screenplay with C. Robert Cargill; the duo also wrote the original film. eOne is financing the sequel with Jason Blum and Derrickson producing and Charles Layton, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, and eOne?s Xavier Marchand and Patrice Theroux executive producing.
Sinister, which starred Ethan Hawke, was released domestically by Summit Entertainment, a Lionsgate company, in 2012, and earned over $48 million; the movie?s worldwide gross was $82 million.
