According to a report from Variety, Deschanel will join a cast that already features Zachary Levi and Lil Rel Howery. It’s unclear what her role will be, but it’s likely that she will have a significant role given her star power in Hollywood.
Best known for her role on the hit sitcom New Girl, Deschanel has also starred in a long list of films, including (500) Days of Summer, Elf, Our Idiot Brother, Yes Man, Trolls, Trolls World Tour, and the upcoming Dreamin’ Wild, where she’ll star alongside Casey Affleck and Walton Goggins.

It will be produced by John Davis through his Davis Entertainment banner. In 2010, Warner Bros. and Amblin Entertainment previously attempted to adapt the popular book into a film.
First published in 1955, Harold and the Purple Crayon centered around the story of a four-year-old boy who, with the power of his crayon, created worlds around him. The book was then followed by six other books and was also adapted into a TV series by HBO in 2001-2002.
Levi is best known for his superhero role in DC Films’ Shazam! which grossed $365 million at the worldwide box office. He also first gained recognition as the lead star in NBC’s long-running spy comedy series Chuck which ran on air for five seasons from 2007-2012. For his performance in the 2016 play She Loves Me, Levi earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical. He will next be seen in American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story, The Unbreakable Boy, and the highly-anticipated Shazam sequel.
