Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Trailer & Poster Parodies The Matrix

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 isn’t set to hit theaters until April, but the film is already ramping up its marketing and capitalizing on another big property by parodying the recently released The Matrix Resurrections.

A poster for the upcoming sequel asks players whether they’ll take the red quill or the blue quill, an obvious homage to the red and blue pills that Neo is asked to choose between in The Matrix films. Another parody was also released in the form of a trailer, with the Matrix’s green lines of code being transformed into Sonic the Hedgehog’s golden rings before some footage from the film is shown.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will see the return of the original film’s main cast including Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation) as the voice of Sonic, James Marsden (Westworld) as Tom Wachowski, Tika Sumpter (Ride Along) as Maddie Wachowski, and Jim Carrey (Kidding) as Sonic’s rival, Doctor Robotnik/Eggman along with Adam Pally (The Mindy Project) and Natasha Rothwell (Wonder Woman 1984).

It’s also been confirmed that the video game’s fan-favorite characters Miles “Tails” Prower and Knuckles the Echidna (voiced by Idris Elba) are now joining Sonic in the sequel.
