In the video, Colbert laments the fact that there hasn’t been many celebrations surrounding the legendary first film. He says that since The Lord of the Rings is the best movie trilogy ever, he thought he’d help celebrate it with a special video. Colbert is then joined by musician Jon Batiste, who begins the rap before being joined by a ton of stars from the first film, including Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Hugo Weaving, Andy Serkis, Orlando Bloom, and Viggo Mortensen.
The rap mainly centers around The Lord of the Rings being the “#1 trilly,” and the group talking down any other film trilogy that exists. The late-night host and actors are also joined by real-life rappers Method Man and Killer Mike, with Anna Kendrick also making some brief cameos in the celebratory video. While the official 20th anniversary of the film isn’t until December 19, it is nice to see the cast get together even for something as silly as a rap video. While fans around the world celebrate the iconic trilogy, they continue to wait for more news surrounding the world of The Lord of The Rings, including more information on Amazon’s highly anticipated upcoming series.
