20th Century Studios has officially decided to remove Adrian Lyne’s newest psychological erotic thriller Deep Water from next year’s theatrical release schedule. Originally set to arrive in theaters on January 14, 2022, this marks the third time that the Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas-led has been delayed.
Its previous theatrical release would have pitted the Deep Water pic against major competition in the form of Paramount Pictures’ highly-anticipated fifth installment of Scream. Further details about its new release plan haven’t been disclosed yet.

The film is directed by Fatal Attraction filmmaker Adrian Lyne from a script co-written by Zack Helm (Stranger Than Fiction) and Sam Levinson (Euphoria). It stars Ben Affleck, Ana de Armas, Lil Rel Howery, Jacob Elordi, Finn Wittrock, Rachel Blanchard, Tracy Letts, Kristen Connolly, and Dash Mihok.
Deep Water centers on Vic and Melinda Van Allen, who are an attractive young married couple whose mind games with each other take a twisted turn when people around them start turning up dead. The couple staves off divorce in a loveless marriage by allowing each to take lovers, but it becomes messy as Highsmith exposed the surface facade of American suburban life.

Garrett Basch and Steven Zaillian are executive producing the film along with Entertainment 360’s Guymon Casady, Anthony Katagas, and Ben Forkner. Arnon Milchon is serving as a producer.
Lyne last directed the 2002 drama Unfaithful, starring Diane Lane and Richard Gere, and made a reputation with steamy erotic films such as Indecent Proposal, Fatal Attraction, and 9 1/2 Weeks.
