The Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures has set release dates for the next two Steven Spielberg-directed films, which are both DreamWorks projects.
First up is the Untitled Cold War Spy Thriller, which has been scheduled for October 16, 2015. That’s the same date Universal has scheduled the Guillermo del Toro-directed horror film, Crimson Peak.
Tom Hanks will star in Spielberg’s spy thriller, which was written by the Coen brothers, based on an original script by Matt Charman. Spielberg, Marc Platt and Kristie Macosko Krieger will produce, and Adam Somner and Daniel Lupi will executive produce. The movie is the true story of James Donovan, an attorney who finds himself thrust into the center of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on the near-impossible mission to negotiate the release of a captured American U-2 pilot.
Then, on July 1, 2016, Spielberg’s adaptation of the Roald Dahl novel The BFG will be released. Other films scheduled for that date are Angry Birds, Independence Day 2 and Tarzan.
The BFG was written by Melissa Mathison. Spielberg and Frank Marshall will produce, and Kathleen Kennedy, John Madden and Michael Siegel will executive produce. In the film, a young girl, the Queen of England and a benevolent giant known as the BFG, set out on an adventure to capture the evil, man-eating giants who have been invading the human world.
