Guillermo del Toro Departs Emma Watson-led Beauty and the Beast

Just one week after it was announced that Walt Disney Pictures is moving forward with their own Bill Condon-helmed live action Beauty and the Beast, comes word, via Deadline, that Warner Bros. Pictures’ take on the tale has lost attached director Guillermo del Toro due to scheduling conflicts. Del Toro remains attached as producer and screenwriter (with Andrew Davies) with Emma Watson still set to star.

A traditional fairytale, the earliest published version of the story was written by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve and appeared in France in the 18th century.

A new director for Beauty and the Beast is expected to be announced shortly while del Toro’s next, Crimson Peak, is set to hit theaters October 16, 2015.
