First announced back in 2009, Neal Mortiz and StudioCanal’s remake of the 1993 Renny Harlin thriller Cliffhanger is moving forward today as Deadline reports that Joe Gazzam has come aboard to provide the screenplay.
Sylvester Stallone starred in the original film as Gabe Walker, a mountain climber who takes on a group of thieves in the Colorado Rockies. Although it’s quite possible that plans have changed since the initial announcement five years ago, early word suggested that the new Cliffhanger will center on a group of young climbers.
Gazzam is best known for his spec script, Shadow Run, an action thriller now in development at Sony Pictures.
Mortiz is producing the new Cliffhanger alongside Ori Marmur through Original Film with Ronald Halpern producing for StudioCanal.
