Star Wars: Episode VII Sets Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca!

ComingSoon.net reported late last month that original Star Wars trilogy star Peter Mayhew was likely to reprise his role as Chewbacca in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII. Today, The Hollywood Reporter brings confirmation, reporting that the 69-year-old actor will, indeed, play the famous Wookiee in the December 18, 2015 release.

Scripted by J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan, Star Wars: Episode VII will be set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi and will follow a trio of new young leads along with some very familiar faces. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford are all heavily rumored to appear as older incarnations of their beloved characters from the original Star Wars trilogy, while names like Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o and John Boyega are believed to be among the project’s fresh faces. At this time, however, Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm have only confirmed a single star: R2-D2.

With this past weekend‘s revelation that Star Wars: Episode VII is already in production, expect some additional confirmations regarding the much-anticipated release in the very near future and check back for full details as they become available.
