According to Deadline, Tony-nominated actor James Cusati-Moyer has officially been tapped for an undisclosed role in Warner Bros. Pictures’ highly-anticipated DC film Black Adam. This new casting addition comes after lead star Dwayne Johnson has confirmed that production on the long-in-development superhero project is set to begin next week.
This marks Cusati-Moyer’s feature acting debut after only making brief appearances in TV shows such as Fox’s Prodigal Son and Hulu’s The Path. He will also next be seen in Shonda Rhimes’ new Netflix series titled Inventing Anna which will be led by two-time Emmy winner Julia Garner.

Based on the DC Comics character created by Otto Binder and C.C. Beck, Black Adam will be led by Dwayne Johnson, who has been attached to play the titular anti-hero for over a decade now. It will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows), who worked with Johnson on Disney’s upcoming Jungle Cruise, from a screenplay written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshiryani.
Joining Johnson are members of the Justice Society of America who will be portrayed by Pierce Brosnan (The Foreigner) as Doctor Fate, Noah Centineo (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before) as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell (Trinkets) as Cyclone and Aldis Hodge (One Night in Miami) as Hawkman. The film will also star Sarah Shahi (City on a Hill) and Marwan Kenzari (Aladdin), though their roles are currently being kept close to the antihero chest.
The antihero was originally slated to make his highly-anticipated debut in 2019’s Shazam!, though the studio elected to split the characters off into individual films to allow them breathing room and proper development. Instead, they’ve just opted to tease the character with Djimon Hounsou’s original wizard Shazam narrating his origin story to Billy Batson.

The film is being produced by Johnson and FlynnPicturesCo’s Beau Flynn alongside Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions, while Scott Sheldon will be overseeing the project for FlynnPictureCo.
Originally scheduled for December 2021 release, Black Adam has recently been pushed back to July 29, 2022.
