According to Deadline, Voltage Pictures has successfully acquired the worldwide distribution rights to director Daniel Farrands’ upcoming Aileen Wuornos biopic titled American Boogeywoman, which centers around the notorious serial killer’s early life in 1976. The film will be led by Cobra Kai actress Peyton List, who is portraying a young Wuornos. The character was famously portrayed by Charlize Theron in Patty Jenkins’ 2003 Monster film which earned her an Oscar for Best Actress.
“We know so little of the early years of Aileen, especially given she was living a very different life to the one we see in Monster,” List said in a statement. “Embodying such a deeply complex and divisive character is what drew me to the project, and I can’t wait to bring context to America’s most infamous female serial killer.”
