According to Deadline, Screen Gems has successfully acquired the rights to Gregg Hurwitz and Philip Eisner’s spec script titled Sabine which is being described as a female-led thriller film. The project will also be produced by Stranger Things EP Shawn Levy and Dan Levine through their 21 Laps banner.
Sabine is an elevated thriller that will center around an ambitious young female detective, who won’t stop at anything to hunt down a serial killer. However, she then begins to see the world through her target’s eyes. The film will be written by Gregg Hurwitz and Philip Eisner, who have also signed on to executive produce. This project will serve as their second collaboration after recently writing Netflix’s Sweet Girl which will be led by Jason Momoa.

Screen Gems is best known for producing a number of popular thriller and horror films such as: Boogeyman, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Hostel, When a Stranger Calls, Vacancy, and Obsessed. The long-time production studio is also responsible for two successful supernatural action franchises: Resident Evil and Underworld films which are both led by a female protagonist. Their upcoming projects include: Paul W. Anderson’s film adaptation of Monster Hunter which will be their latest collaboration with Milla Jovovich; Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Shrine; and Jessica M. Thompson’s horror film The Bride.
