Suicide Squad: David Ayer reveals Jared Leto’s Joker performance was ‘Mistreated’
Following the official announcement of the Justice League Snyder Cut, discussions about director David Ayer’s own cut of 2016’s Suicide Squad are still continuing as DC fans get more intrigued by Ayer’s dark and emotional take on the DCEU film. In another response to a fan’s statement about hoping to see more of Jared Leto’s version of the Joker in the future, the Fury director took to Twitter to reveal that audiences haven’t really seen Leto’s whole performance as his character and scenes were mistreated during the studio’s final cut of the movie.
Jared was pretty mistreated during this. No one has seen his performance. It was ripped out of the movie. https://t.co/gSOeyJjtyd

Since Suicide Squad’s theatrical release, many fans were disappointed with Leto’s portrayal of the iconic DC villain because of his small part in the movie. His version was also previously anticipated due to being the latest incarnation of the Joker after 8 years since Heath Ledger’s critically-acclaimed performance in The Dark Knight.

The ball is firmly in Warner Bros. court on this one. It certainly bodes well that Ayer doesn’t seem to harbor any ill will toward the studio. Ayer has also said that there’s a lot more footage of Jared Leto’s Joker nestled somewhere in the WB archives. Regardless, there’s the matter of what kind of resources the studio is willing to give Ayer to realize his true vision of the film. Warner Bros. is reportedly giving Snyder an estimated $20-30 million to properly finish his Justice League cut.
Suicide Squad starred Will Smith as Deadshot, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Cara Delevinge as Enchantress, Karen Fukuhara as Katana and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, who became an instant fan-favorite and is now one of the most popular DC characters. Despite receiving mostly negative reviews, the film had still grossed over $726 million at the worldwide box officie.
