According to Deadline, Spyglass Media Group has nabbed the rights to adventure photographer Ben Moon’s recently released memoir titled Denali: A Man, A Dog, and The Friendship of a Lifetime, which centers around the strong bond between Moon and his titular rescue dog. The production company is planning to adapt the Moon’s touching memoir into a film with Pacific Rim star Charlie Hunnam attached to lead.

First published last January, the memoir was based on Moon’s eight-minute short film titled Denali (which you can check out in the player below!), described as his love letter to his dog. The video went viral throughout social media platforms in 2015 and had garnered millions of views. Moon’s short film and memoir chronicled his 15-year bond with his rescue dog named Denali, who has accompanied him throughout the best and worst moments of his life including the time when he was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 29. However, shortly after Moon survived cancer, Denali was then diagnosed with the same disease and it was now his turn to take care of his most loyal companion.

The full-length feature adaptation will be written and directed by Max Winkler, which marks his and Hunnam’s second collaboration as they recently worked together on Lionsgate’s upcoming Jungleland film. It will be produced by Hunnam along with Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa of Bona Fide Productions.

Hunnam is best known for his role as Jax Teller in FX’s Sons of Anarchy which ran on-air for seven seasons from 2008-2014. He then made a big break on the box office as he led Guillermo del Toro’s sci-fi monster film Pacific Rim starring alongside Idris Elba and Rinko Kikuchi. Hunnam most recently appeared in Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen and George MacKay’s True History of the Kelly Gang.
