The Batman, The Witcher & More May Resume Production in the UK

Matt Reeves’ The Batman and Netflix’s The Witcher Season 2 were two of the many highly-anticipated projects that were forced to shut down their UK productions due to the ongoing global pandemic. Because of the production delay, most studios had to revise their whole schedule which resulted in many upcoming projects being pushed back to a much later date than intended.

However, things might finally get back on track with Deadline bringing word that the UK government has officially announced that they’re allowing major film and TV productions to resume their filming as soon as employers will ensure that COVID-19 safety measures have been put in place.

The Batman and The Witcher Season 2 productions won’t be the only tentpole projects that will benefit from the new announcement as Netflix’s Sex Education Season 3, BBC’s Peaky Blinders Season 6, and Disney’s live-action Little Mermaid film may now also resume their halted productions.

“The government is working closely with the screen sector to understand how different types of productions can comply with social distancing guidelines, and give confidence to people in the TV and film industries that there are safe ways in which they can return to work.” Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport spokeswoman said in a statement.

This may also be good news to Marvel fans with Marvel Studios’ upcoming MCU productions such as Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man 3, and Disney+ series Moon Knight which are all reportedly set to film in the UK in the coming months.

However, the new announcement doesn’t necessarily mean that film and TV productions could immediately get back to work as many are still criticizing the government’s decision of lifting restrictions too early. It still depends on the studios if they should decide to quickly resume productions or wait until the whole world’s current situation gets better.
