Paramount Plans New G.I. Joe Movie After Snake Eyes Solo Film

Later this year, the Snake Eyes solo film will bring the G.I. Joe franchise back to the big screen. However, Paramount Pictures and Hasbro Studios are already planning a new G.I. Joe movie to carry the franchise forward.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Seberg writers Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse have been signed to write the next G.I. Joe film. Shrapnel and Waterhouse’s movie won’t be a direct sequel to Snake Eyes. Instead, it’s being described as “an expansion to take audience goers deeper into the world of Joe.” Shrapnel and Waterhouse have previously written the Gothic drama, Rebecca, for Netflix. They are also slated to write The Great Machine, a film adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan and Tony Harris’ Ex Machina comic.

Additionally, THR notes that the Snake Eyes film is now called Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins.

Henry Golding and Samara Weaving will likely reprise their roles as Snake Eyes and Scarlett, since both are key members of G.I. Joe. The Snake Eyes solo movie will also introduce Andrew Koji as Storm Shadow and Úrsula Corberó as Baroness. Both Baroness and Storm Shadow also seem likely to resurface as members of Cobra.

The last film in the franchise, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, was released in 2013. However, both Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins and its newly announced followup will be a complete reboot from the previous movies.

Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins will hit theaters on Friday, October 23.
