The film is notable for launching the careers of many of its young stars. The film grossed $124 million worldwide and ranked among the top ten highest grossing films of the year. The Goonies has also spurred a massive cult following, all of whom want to know when the oft-rumored sequel will hit theaters.

Astin found success in films such as Rudy, 50 First Dates, and Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. He also appeared on Season 2 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things.
