âWeâve talked about it,â said Affleck. âThere seems to be a debate whether or not to do a TV series version of it. The scriptwriter [Bill Dubuque] has become quite successful and busy, so heâs off doing his thing. And somebody said to me, âWell if we could find a script that we could retrofit and make into a sequel⌠But thatâs sort of tricky because the personality of the character is so specific, that doesnât really work to just say, âWell, we used call this script Action Movie Shootout, and now weâre going to call it The Accountant 2â˛.â
Affleck added that he would âbe thrilled to work with Gavin again and do that again,â saying he had a great time on the first film. âIt was a lot of fun. It was an interesting twist on the genre and Iâd love to do it.âÂ
The star then joked, âAnd if they want to produce a TV show version of it and I get some royalties, well thatâs great, too.âÂ
The Accountant, written by Bill Dubuque and starring Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, and John Lithgow, hit theaters in 2016 from Warner Bros. Affleck starred as Christian Wolff, an autistic accountant moonlighting as a hitman. As the math savant uncooks the books for a new client, the Treasury Department closes in on his activities, and the body count starts to rise. The thriller earned $155.2 million at the worldwide box office.
