As of right now Phase 4 in cinemas (outside of the Disney+ series) entails Black Widow, The Eternals, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Untitled Spider-Man sequel and Thor: Love and Thunder. Director Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther 2 is the only Phase 5 film with a release date: May 6, 2022. It should also be noted that 2021 is the first year to have FOUR Marvel Studios films in theaters in one year, and given that it’s now happening again in 2023 we can assume there are still two slots for 2022 that have yet to be announced!
However, there are other films we know are in some phase of pre-production and even have talent attached, including Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man 3, James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Blade starring Mahershala Ali and Deadpool 3 with Ryan Reynolds. A Captain Marvel 2 starring Brie Larson is also a distinct possibility, as are the long awaited MCU reboots of Fantastic Four and X-Men, as well as an inevitable fifth movie in the Avengers team-up franchise.
It’s also possible that television series for Disney+ will spill over onto the big screen in these films listed above or others, including The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight and She-Hulk.
Which films do you think will ultimately fill these mystery Phase 5 slots? Let us know in the comments below!
