Michael Bay (Bad Boys, Transformers franchise, 13 Hours) will be directing Sony’s upcoming movie Black 5, Variety has confirmed. While plot details are unknown, it is said the movie will be “high on action,” which sounds perfect for Bay’s wheelhouse.

The screenplay for the movie was written by Ehren Kruger (The Talisman). Bay and Erwin Stoff (13 Hours) will serve as producers on the project. Production on Black 5 is expected to begin in early 2020.
Bay’s directing credits include Bad Boys, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, The Island, the Transformers franchise, Pain & Gain, and 13 Hours. His upcoming projects include 6 Underground, which stars Ryan Reynolds and is currently in post-production, and Robopocalypse, a sci-fi thriller written by Drew Goddard that is set in the aftermath of a robot uprising. The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Daniel H. Wilson.

Sony Pictures’ upcoming slate also includes the Little Women adaptation, Zombieland: Double Tap, Charlie’s Angels, The Angry Birds Movie 2, Jumanji: The Next Level, Bad Boys for Life, and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.
