The New Aladdin Trailer is Here!

Disney ‘Certainly Talking’ About an Aladdin Sequel

Disney’s Aladdin was a surprise box office success with over $1 billion in the bank to date, which would make some bet that the studio is considering their options for sequels, a bet that you would win. Speaking with SYFY Wire, Aladdin producer Dan Lin revealed that the studio is in the early stages of thinking about a follow-up.

“We’d love to,” Lin said. “People clearly loved the movie and watched it multiple times and we get lots of fan letters and people asking us to make Return [of] Jafar, and I can just tell you that we’re in early stages right now, but we’re certainly talking about another movie. Like with Aladdin, it will not be a straight remake of any movie that’s been made before, so we’re looking at ‘where’s the best way to go with these characters.”

He also hopes that director Guy Ritchie would return to helm whatever follow up comes to fruition.

“He made the move for his kids,” Lin continued. “They loved Aladdin, both the original animated movie and the Broadway musical, and they wanted him to make a movie that they could see.”

Two-time Oscar nominee Will Smith (AliMen in Black) stars as the Genie in the new film alongside Mena Massoud (Amazon’s Jack Ryan) as Aladdin, the hapless but lovable street rat who is smitten with the Sultan’s daughter. Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) stars as Princess Jasmine, the Sultan’s beautiful daughter who wants to have a say in how she lives her life with Marwan Kenzari (Murder on the Orient Express) as Jafar, an evil sorcerer who devises a nefarious plot to unseat the Sultan and rule Agrabah himself.
