With production on their long-anticipated Dumb and Dumber To imminent, writers/directors Bobby and Peter Farrelly have officially added the sequel’s first new cast member. Variety reports that Kathleen Turner has signed on for an undisclosed role.
ComingSoon.net was first to break the news that Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels were in discussions to develop a sequel to their 1994 comedy hit and recent reports have suggested that the plot will follow Harry and Lloyd 20 years later trying to track down one of their children.
The original Dumb and Dumber represented one of Carrey’s breakout comedy roles. The film was given a prequel in 2003 with Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd but without the creative involvement of the Farrellys.
Turner, star of modern classics like Body Heat, Romancing the Stone and Who Framed Roger Rabbit, recently starred in director Anne Renton’s comedy drama The Perfect Family.
Update: The Farrelly Brothers have just taken to Twitter to reveal that Turner’s role!
“Kathleen Turner is officially in Dumb an Dumber To,” they write. “She plays Fraida Felcher–the legendary hose-hound from Cranston!”
Fans of the original Dumb and Dumber will recall Felcher’s name from the scene where Harry and Lloyd share a hot tub together, awakening some memories of a past relationship in Harry. Harry explains that he and Fraida, a “babe who worked for the tractor company” stayed together at a similar place, the No-Tell Motel on Route 31. Sadly, their relationship ended a week later when Fraida sent Harry a John Deere letter.
