A box office hit in Great Britain, the feature film adaptation of the popular series “The Inbetweeners” is, as announced last year, going to receive the American remake treatment. Today, Deadline reports that the project has found a director in She’s Out of My League and Butter helmer Jim Field Smith. The Paramount production will be retitled Virgins America.
Likened to American Pie, the original The Inbetweeners is a racy comedy about four uncool friends (Will, Jay, Simon and Neil) who go on their first vacation to Greece in search of high times and wild sex – with no parents, no teachers, no money, and little to no chance with the ladies.
Iain Morris, who created the series with Damon Beesley, was initially going to write and direct the American version. The current status of his involvement is unknown.
