With his The Dallas Buyer’s Club hitting theaters December 6, director Jean-Marc Vallée appears to have already lined up his next project. Deadline reports that Vallée is set to take on Wild.
Previously announced to star Reese Witherspoon, Wild is set to arrive from Fox Searchlight and is based on Cheryl Strayed bestselling memoir of the same name. Oscar-nominated writer Nick Hornby will provide the adapted screenplay.
With the dissolution of her marriage and the death of her mother, Strayed has lost all hope. After years of reckless, destructive behavior, she makes a rash decision. With absolutely no experience, driven only by sheer determination, Cheryl hikes more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, alone. Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddens, strengthens, and ultimately heals her.
Wild will be produced by Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea through Pacific Standard alongside River Road Entertainment’s Bill Pohlad.
