Relativity Media is moving forward with a sequel to the Bandito Brothers’ breakout hit action thriller Act of Valor, a real-life look at U.S. Navy SEALS that grossed $70 million domestically last February after being picked up by the distributor for $13 million. According to Deadline, Relativity will finance, produce and distribute Act of Valor 2, a sequel that will focus on elite SWAT officers that will be written and directed by Scott Wiper (The Condemned) with the Bandito Brothers returning to produce.
The original movie was directed by Mike “Mouse” McCoy and Scott Waugh (who is currently directing the Need for Speed movie for DreamWorks Pictures), raising the $12 million budget independently and making the movie under the radar with a combination of active-duty U.S. Navy SEALs and established actors recreating real-life operations.
Relativity Television is also currently developing a scripted drama based on the original Act of Valor alongside the Bandito Brothers’ production company.
