Josh Gad to Headline Kinison

Josh Gad, who made a name for himself starring in the original Broadway production of Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s “The Book of Mormon,” is set to take the lead in director Larry Charles’ Kinison, a biopic of the legendary standup comedian, Deadline reports.

Scripted by Rich Wilkes (xXx), Kinison began as an HBO Films project titled Brother Sam that Tom Shadyac was, at one time, attached to direct with Dan Fogler formerly attached to the title role. Based on the memoir “Brother Sam: The Short, Spectacular Life of Sam Kinison” by Bill Kinison and Steve Delsohn, the film will chart Kinison’s life as an evangelist through his rise as a comedian up until his tragic death in 1992.

Gad can be seen on the big screen later this month as Steve Wozniak in Open Road Films’ Steve Jobs biopic JOBS.
